OLHZN-22 was the twenty second high altitude weather balloon flight for Overlook Horizon. This flight launched on April 8, 2024 into the path of totality during the 2024 total solar eclipse in Canandaigua, NY. This flight was our second eclipse flight, and the third flight attempt for our new live video transmission system to obtain and view live video from an on-board camera while the balloon and payload was in-flight.
At its core, "UmbraQuest" seeks to unravel the mysteries of the eclipse's impact on our planet's atmosphere. The phenomenon of a total solar eclipse provides a rare laboratory for scientists worldwide, offering insights into solar-terrestrial relations, atmospheric dynamics, and even insights into solar physics. Our mission contributes to this global puzzle, aiming to shed light on the transient effects of solar occlusion on atmospheric conditions.
